St. Mary's CCW
"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
All women of the parish, 18 years and older, are considered members of St. Mary Council of Catholic Women. We provide services and monetary support to organizations at the local, state, national, and international levels. Our group meets 8 times during the year for organizational purposes and fellowship. Our service projects are many. Our members help distribute food for the Catholic Charities Mobile Food Pantry in Paxton. We also provide workers, callers, and bakers for the Red Cross Blood Drive, which occurs two times per year at our parish center. Our members take donuts monthly to the local nursing homes and visit with residents. Many members are part of our Prayer Chain phone tree and make calls and offer prayers as needed. Our CCW provides workers and food for funeral dinners. We organize our Angel Tree in which parishioners choose names of local children and provide much needed items at Christmas time. In February, we collect items to take to the veteran’s hospital in Danville. In October, our members lead the rosary before Mass.
St. Mary CCW generates funds by collecting yearly dues/donations from its members. We also work the IGA cookout on Oct. 13 this year. A large part of our fundraising is through IGA's incentive to turn in $200,000 in receipts which generates $1,000 for our group. We usually make this goal annually. With our funds we help a variety of organizations including Watts of Love, Boxes of Joy, Dress a Girl Project and the PBL Backpack program.
All women are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings which are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month. This year we will be including a few luncheon or brunch meetings which will be announced as they appear on the calendar. Our night meetings begin after the 7:00 mass, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Refreshments are served. We hope to see more of you there!
